Front Big Brake Kit 6-Piston for Tesla Model 3 & Model Y

£4,395.00 inc. VAT

Anyone who’s driven their Model 3 or Model Y hard on twisty roads, or at high speeds on the track will know that the braking system on these Tesla vehicles are perfectly adequate for normal road driving, but with the combination of high weight and huge power that these cars have, there’s certainly room for braking improvement when driven hard.

Adding stopping power is one of the smartest investments you can make in your vehicle. Whether your focus is having more fade-free fun on your favourite backroad or at the track, or simply getting your kids to school safely, improving your braking performance is pure upside. The UP x PFC Front Big Brake Kit (BBK) is the ultimate steel disc Big Brake Kit for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Full stop.

PRODUCT INFO

Many Tesla owners want a track-capable high performance Big Brake Kit – but one that doesn’t break the bank!  This is the absolute best-of-breed no-compromise big brake kit, crucially developed exclusively for Teslas.  Using the same proven calipers from our racing-winning Superlight Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit, combined with Performance Friction (PFC) built V3 iron discs plus our PFC-produced specially designed brake pad compounds.

For the racers out there, PFC needs no introduction, but for those newer to motorsports, PFC is the official brake supplier for Porsche factory motorsports vehicles including Porsche 991 GT3 Cup race cars. PFC ‘ZeroFailures’ discs are well respected for unmatched durability under the harshest racing conditions. The V3 version PFC rotors we use are the latest generation of PFC’s patented technology and impressively do not use traditional bolt hardware to join the 2pc disc/bell design. This also makes them more silent and rattle-free than traditional bolted 2-piece disc designs.

The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are very capable performance cars, but the considerable weight of the vehicle overtaxes the factory braking system, even with upgraded components. Ultimately quality matters, and size matters as well. This kit has the best of both worlds with the highest quality components from the world’s best factories combined with the massive sizing of 394x35mm discs and 6 piston calipers that any track-driven Tesla truly needs to win.

This huge 394mm 6 Piston UP Iron BFB kit does indeed fit with UP’s 18″ forged race wheels and can fit some other but not all 18″ forged wheels with high inner barrel clearance (18″ Model 3 stock wheels will not fit). 19″ wheels and above will fit even more easily with less thought needed. Please contact us if any concerns about fitting your car’s wheels.

A FURTHER NOTE ON THE UNIQUE PFC V3 ZERO-FAILURE DISC TECHNOLOGY

Our Performance Friction (PFC) full floating Direct Drive attachment system allows the brake disc to naturally expand/contract both radially and axially without being constrained by the hub. This helps eliminate disc warping, reduces drag, and eliminates thermal judder vibrations and pulsations. Due to the high quality of PFC’s design and manufacturing, the Direct Drive rotors are completely silent and rattle-free – a trait not typically found in 2-piece designs. PFC custom develops their own proprietary metallurgy for these discs as well, ensuring the longest lifespan and best performance.

THE UNPLUGGED PERFORMANCE IRON FRONT BIG BRAKE KIT (FRONT) FOR THE TESLA MODEL 3 AND  MODEL Y INCLUDES:

  • 394mm x 35mm 15.5″ track-proven Iron Rotors PFC V3 2 piece floating disc technology
  • Brake pads designed specifically by PFC for Unplugged Performance for use with this kit
  • Veined and scalloped disc design to minimise weight while maximising cooling
  • 6061 machined billet aluminium caliper adapter brackets and related installation hardware
  • Premium coated German TUV produced stainless steel braided brake lines engineered specifically for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y
  • Kit includes all components necessary for installation (high-performance brake fluid will need to be supplied by the buyer, and can be purchased at any automotive parts retailer)
  • Made from components produced in the USA, Italy, and Germany

A NOTE ON BRAKE FLUID & HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING

Brake fluid plays a vital role in the performance and reliability of every brake system, but especially so in high-performance driving. A professional brake bleed with high-performance fluid is a requirement for the optimisation of our brake system. We recommend using Motul RBF 660 (our go-to fluid) or Endless RF-650 brake fluid. Brake fluid should be flushed frequently for race cars in particular because over time moisture content builds and moisture inherently decreases the temperature limit of the brake fluid. Brake fluid and its temperature capabilities of it matter especially due to the high temperatures the heavy and powerful Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance generate.

The higher temperatures that an uprated brake system has the potential to generate will transfer heat into the brake fluid – and when the brake fluid boils those bubbles create air in the brake lines. Air in the brake lines from the boiled fluid can create a near-instant loss of the brake pedal. Therefore, using a high temp brake fluid and managing brake heat is key to safe braking for extreme environments. Loss of pedal is a different symptom than brake fade and typically a symptom of brake fluids exceeding their temperature range (or alternatively a leak in the system) whereas brake fade is often a byproduct of the brake pads exceeding the operating temperature range.

In both cases managing temperatures in a racing environment and adequate testing is typically found in motorsports drivers and always strongly encouraged to get the best and most safe result. We flush our brake fluid after each race and we monitor caliper temperatures for these same reasons on our race cars. Please always feel welcome to talk to our team if you have questions about motorsport use. For street driving the temperatures seen are significantly less and this plays a lesser role although the same fluids are suggested for street cars as well.
